A LANCASTER GP had a double reason to celebrate this week – he returned form a tour of duty as an Army medic in Afghanistan and reached his 57th birthday.

Colonel Robin Jackson, based at the Rosebank Medical Practice on Ashton Road, returned on Monday after spending four months at the British Military Hospital in Camp Bastion.

The stint at Camp Bastion brought to an end his three-and-a-half-year spell as commanding officer of 207 Manchester Field Hospital, which is made up of 44 Territorial Army volunteers and is based in Stretford, Greater Manchester.
