This summer’s poor weather appears to have had little impact on the area’s keen gardeners – if last Saturday’s Garstang Gardening Club Show is anything to go by.
As in previous years, petal power and voluminous vegetables were on display at the club’s show, held at St Thomas’s Parish Hall. The venue was packed with attractive displays of flowers and horticultural produce, grown with loving care by club members from throughout the greater Garstang area.
In his speech before the prize-giving session, club president Ben Andrews paid tribute to retiring show chairman Don Worsnop, who has organised the show for 11 years.
Mr Worsnop said it did not seem as long as 11 years, but thought it time to pass on the position to someone younger.
There were two stars of the show, local grower Andrew Thompson, whose many exhibits won the most points trophy, and a giant pumpkin submitted by Ben Andrews, which weighed in at 41 pounds six ounces.
