THE renowned Festival Players once again visit Leighton Hall near Yealand next week for what promises to be a mesmerising performance of Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming of the Shrew.
The hall’s gardens will host a fun-packed, sprightly production centred on Shakespeare’s feisty female creation, Katharine, at 7.30pm on Friday, July 29.
But this will be a shrew with a difference – as Kate will be played by a man, the London-based actor Scott Smith. A lively ‘Battle of the Sexes’ will be played out by just seven actors from the all-male company, including the innovative and inspired director Michael Dyer who himself plays the rich nobleman Vincentio.
