Fundraising staff dress to impress

Local businesses have rallied round to support disabled Lancaster twins Katie and Emma Sutcliffe.

The 15-year-olds suffer from spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, and need wheelchairs to get about.

Backed by the Guardian, they hope to raise £85,000 to pay for specialist treatment in America which could see them walk unaided for the first time.

They have already raised more than £65,000 thanks to the generosity of local people.

Together with Handelsbanken and HSBC, members of staff from Lancaster chartered accountants CLB Coopers donned fancy dress for a day at the office to raise funds for the appeal.

Every employee, including the firm’s partners/managers, joined in the fun, arriving at work in clothes with a pantomime theme.

Staff donated a minimum of £2 for the “privilege” and they also collected funds through a bucket collection.

In addition, staff paid donations to collect parcels from their office, donated instead of handing out Christmas cards to colleagues, paid an employee to gift wrap parcels, and played games including Pin the Nose on the Reindeer and Guess How Many Reindeer Poo in a Jar.

Meanwhile, FGH Security, based at White Cross in Lancaster, are holding a 10th

anniversary party and staff awards night, which will also raise funds for the Twins Appeal.

It is hoped the black tie event, to be held at Lancaster Brewery on January 20, will raise around £1,000 for the appeal.

The night will be attended by FGH staff, customers and stakeholders by invitation only.

Fundraising will come through a door entry fee for non-staff members, a “race night with a difference”, sponsorship of the charity races by some of FGH’s suppliers and a charity raffle with gifts donated by customers.
