IF your tap water hasn’t been living up to your expectations recently, don’t worry, because United Utilities is spending £2m on a “taste and odour” upgrade in the Lancaster district.
Around 120,000 households will be getting better tasting tap water from next year, as the water company starts work on upgrading our water treatment works in North Yorkshire.
New filtering technology will be installed at the plant off Little Fell Lane, Langthwaite, in order to improve taste and odour.
The technology uses activated carbon, with an electrical charge running through it, to remove chemicals which can cause an unpleasant taste and odour.
The work will begin in early 2012, and last around 60 weeks.
