Forecasters have issued a weather alert for Lancashire as heavy rain spreads across northern England.
Lancaster and Morecambe are among the areas which could see persistent and ‘intense’ rain on Friday and Saturday.
The Met Office has issued a ‘yellow’ weather alert for large parts of the north west up until midnight on Saturday, as latest forecasts advise the public to ‘be aware of the risk of disruption due to localised flooding’.
People in South Cumbria and North Yorkshire have been warned of the same conditions.
The Met Office chief forecaster’s summary says: “Areas of heavy rain will spread northwards across England and Wales during Friday morning.
“These areas will become slow-moving, bringing prolonged and occasionally intense rain to parts of northern England, the north Midlands and north Wales later.
“This may cause some flooding from surface water or rivers, though there is still uncertainty as to areas most at risk.
“Elsewhere, heavy showers will affect the rest of England and Wales, perhaps causing some localised flooding in other parts of Wales and south west England.
“Friday’s wet weather will continue into Saturday.”
