Young people took over the latest First Friday event in the Lancaster district earlier this month.

Youth was the focus of the third event of its kind organised by Lancaster Arts Partners to encourage locals and visitors to see the area afresh and try out something new on the arts scene.

The event kicked off on a musical note thanks to Rock The Square which saw young singers and bands from DT3 in Lancaster and More Music in Morecambe performing in Market Square.

Straight afterwards, there was a chance to see some of the best talent on the local dance scene as Ludus Dance Studio hosted a Youth Dance Triple Bill celebrating the 10th anniversary of its own young dance company.

And there was more music to enjoy for free in The Dukes bar.

For the first time since First Fridays were launched in October, activities also took place away from Lancaster city centre.

A free bus ran from Lancaster to The Hothouse in Morecambe for those wanting to see Rae Morris, an emerging singer-songwriter recently signed to Atlantic Records who was supported by local talent, Katy Pickles.

And Green Close Studios in Melling hosted its own First Friday event – the 1625 launch – which celebrated the achievements of young and aspiring artists from across the district and beyond.

First Fridays take place most months and are organised to promote Lancaster as an arts city. For details see www.artscity.co.uk.
