Ten-time Everest-climber at Dukes
Kenton Cool
The Dukes scales new heights on February 27 when the Lancaster theatre welcomes a British mountaineer who has climbed Everest a recordbreaking 10 times.
In May last year, Kenton Cool fulfilled a 90-year-old Olympic pledge by taking a gold medal awarded to the 1922 British Everest Expedition to the summit of Everest, just weeks before the opening of the London 2012 Games.
In doing so, this was the 10th time Kenton had conquered this iconic summit.
Kenton is also the first European to reach the summit of Everest twice in one week and the first person to Tweet from the top of the world.
He is the only Briton to have ever skied down two 800m mountains and has completed more than 18 expeditions to the greater ranges so it’s little wonder that he was nominated for the Piolet D’or – the climbing equivalent of the Oscars.
In the 60th anniversary year of Edmund Hillary’s historic Everest climb, Kenton will be talking about his own experiences on the world’s highest mountain and his 20-year career as one of the world’s leading high altitude guides, including his 2007 expedition to lead Sir Ranulph Fiennes to reach the infamous North Face of the Eiger.
This exhilarating evening of mountaineering stories will also be illustrated with images from the top of the world.
Tickets for Kenton Cool are priced £13/£11.
To book, ring The Dukes box office on 01524 598500 or visit www.dukes-lancaster.org.
