Howdenjones return to Dukes
Lancaster band Howden Jones will be performing at the Dukes, Kate Howden, Paul Jones, Trevor Wagstaff and Laurence Canty.
LANCASTER duo howdenjones make a welcome return to The Dukes next Saturday, performing songs from their new album Plaything.
Kate Howden and Paul Jones having been playing and writing music together since 1999 and started off playing at folk clubs and festivals.
Inspired by the approach of the National Rural Touring Schemes (NRTF), who promote music, drama, dance and comedy in rural areas they set off in their Transit visiting interesting and unusual venues in sometimes remote and often beautiful areas.
They will be performing songs from their latest and seventh album, which sees a new direction rhythmically and lyrically for howdenjones as a band.
They will be joined onstage by Laurence Canty of Quay Change on bass and Trevor Wagstaff of Clever Trevor on drums.
Both have worked with Kate and Paul over the years and recorded Beautiful Again with them live at Glasson Village Hall.
Last year, Kate and Paul played in one of the last “tin tabernacles” a small corrugated village hall at Hamnish in Herefordshire, Ellen Terry’s The Barn Theatre at Smallhythe in Kent, The Little Theatre at Tredegar in Gwent, and the Square and Compass Pub in Worth Matravers on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.
Kate said: “It’s good to be starting off our spring tour on home soil in the wonderful intimate atmosphere of the Round and in Lancaster.
“We’ll also be recording and filming part of this performance for our publicity, before we dissappear off down the road again.”
As well as the music and engaging banter of Kate and Paul as they share their travelling experiences and life observations with songs tunes and stories, the duo play a variety of instruments including , guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bodhran and cajon.
The Dukes performance starts at 8pm (doors 7-30pm), and tickets are £8/6 concessions, available from the Dukes Box Office on 01524 598500.
