From January the Lancaster Guardian will have a regular column featuring personal trainer RYAN DONOHUE of Fitness Formation. Guardian news editor, Ingrid Kent, will be trained by Ryan at VVV gym in Hest Bank and will discover how to achieve maximum results. Here Ingrid meets Ryan and finds out what the next few months have in store.

FITNESS training has been a passion for Ryan Donohue from a very young age.

At just 23 years Ryan has a hugely successful personal training business – Fitness Formation – and has helped countless people to realise their dreams of a better body.

He has even given advice to Graham Hicks, who currently holds the title of Britain’s Strongest Man.

“I aim to be the best I can at training people,” says Ryan. “I want to get my clients the best possible results in the shortest amount of time.”

Born in Lancaster, Ryan went to Lancaster Road Primary School and then Morecambe High School. Fitness was extremely important to Ryan as he was growing up. His Dad Mark was a martial artist and his brother Dan was in the Royal Marines.

Ryan was a keen footballer and tennis player and he also did ju-jitsu. He studied Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Cumbria and is a self-proclaimed bookworm who regularly reads the latest research on fitness and fat loss .

He has also been to America to meet with leading lights in the highly advanced Californian fitness industry, where he is off to again this New Year.

Ryan first began training people when he was 16 years old. He had a job as a gym instructor at VVV gym in Hest Bank.

“I take a very personal approach to training my clients,” he explains. “I’m not like your typical personal trainer. My clients are like an extended family. I am constantly texting, facebooking and ringing them to see how they are getting on.

“It’s very personal. We are all friends and we go out for a big meal every now and again.

“Nothing makes me happier than when I get a text from a client saying ‘I can get into a size eight or ten’. I have and still do train men, but most of my clients are women. They’ve often tried every fad diet and got nowhere – then I help them to achieve sustainable results. I give them all the support they need.

“We all specifically specialise in fat loss and fitness for busy men and women. I would like to create a big community of like-minded people, hence the name of my business, Fitness Formation.

“I’ve trained ladies who have lost half a stone to get into a size 6 and others who have lost six stone to fight diabetes and get their lives back. Some have lost even more than that.

Ryan also takes a novel approach to his business in terms of what he charges.

He says: “For the first 30 days people can try it and if they don’t like it they get all their money back. That is my policy; we guarantee results.

“I am confident to put my livelihood on the line.”

Strong words, but the many happy clients in his sessions show that his confidence is justified.

Many have achieved amazing results, losing large amounts of weight and gaining confidence.

Ryan stays in touch with the public through a newsletter on his blog http://www.fitnessformation.co.uk and through Facebook.com/fitnessformation.
