A young apprentice chef has tasted success after winning a Masterchef inspired competition at Lancaster & Morecambe College.
Connor Bradford, 22, from Lancaster, wonthe top prize of a ‘Chefs Complete Bundle’ which included; a meal voucher donated by Bowland Valley Inns, chef’s uniform, catering books and equipment.
He competed against 10 other hospitality students including apprentices, full time and part time level 3 students who all created their own unique dishes using a set list of ingredients given to them before the competition.
The chefs who are all employed in the industry and studying at the college on a part-time basis, were judged on their hygienic practices, time management, flair and imagination, presentation and knife skills.
Connor, who is an Advanced Apprentice and currently working at the Ship Inn at Roose, Barrow-in-Furness, prepared a main course dish of Lamb Chump served with creamed cabbage, spinach, glazed carrots and potato dauphine with a red wine jus, and a dessert of white chocolate and honeycomb parfait.
Karen Pecsvaradi, head of faculty for serviceindustries and business, said; ‘The quality of what we have eaten here today is outstanding. These students are gaining valuable knowledge and skills from their courses.”
