The University of Cumbria is celebrating the news that it has been shortlisted for one of the prestigious Times Higher Education Awards for 2013.
The university’s Faculty of Education submitted an entry for the ‘Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative’ category and is now up against six other universities to win the final accolade, with the winner being announced at the awards dinner in London on November 28.
This category looks for a strategic and innovative approach to delivering employers’ workforce development needs.
The judges are looking for new ways of working with employers, and high-quality, flexible provision, which is responsive to employer and employee needs. The university’s entry focuses on its strong and highly successful school partnerships and its role as one of the largest providers of School Direct places in the UK for 2013/14.
Faculty business manager Toby Best said: “We are proud that the university has gained this recognition for its innovative work in School Direct.
“Preparing for School Direct has been challenging, but our work in partnership with leading schools has ensured that we have been able to deliver an excellent experience for the first School Direct students, and provide firm foundations to train the next generation of outstanding teachers.”
