Schoolchildren hid objects around their playground for police dogs to find during a special visit by officers.
PC Phil Baxendale and dog handler PC Paul Baker went to Hummingbirds Educational Nursery and Saint Mary and Michael Catholic Primary School in Garstang on Wednesday to give an insight into their work and the important role played by their four-legged friends.
Pre-school and reception class pupils saw the clever canines sniff out the items they hid as they learnt about Lancashire Police’s Dogs Unit.
PC Baxendale also took the children to sit in a police van and showed how its equipment worked.
He said: “Paul and I always enjoy going into schools to teach the children about the work we do. It’s one of the best parts of the job and sometimes tougher than our normal role when we’re faced with a sea of expectant faces staring up at us. However as difficult as our job sometimes can be, visits like this always bring out our softer side. The children all really enjoyed it too.”
