Staff and students at Lancaster & Morecambe College are celebrating after being named in the top 10 per cent of further education colleges nationwide.

The college was also named number one in the local area.

New government league tables have placed Lancaster & Morecambe College in the top ten per cent nationally of all colleges for students progressing onto further learning, cementing its position as one of the county’s top education providers.

The table puts the college in the top 15 general further education colleges out of more than 200 in the UK.

Stuart Rimmer, director of quality and enterprise, said: “Once again it’s a stunning result for the college. For the second year running we are in the top 10 per cent of national colleges and the second highest performing college in Lancashire, out-performing all local colleges. This is due to the commitment, great student support and the outstanding teaching and learning delivered by all our staff for our learners.

“It recognises how well students achieve when they come to us for their qualifications, which is important for their future careers and progression to universities and work.”

In the coming months the college plans to go from strength to strength, with a host of new facilities opening for September 2013 including a state-of-the-art Student Learning Zone and world class engineering and construction facilities.

The next college open evening takes place on July 2 from 4.30–7.30pm.
