The grieving girlfriend of a young man who was killed in an incident on the M6 has paid tribute to him.
Joseph Pidgeon, from Beech Hill, died following a collision with a Range Rover on the northbound carriageway between junction 23 at Haydock and junction 24 at Ashton at around 10.50pm last Friday.
He was loved by everybody who he met and he will be sadly missed by his parents, his brother, by myself and my daughter Ella, because he was a dad to herTina Szabo
His girlfriend Tina Szabo, also from Beech Hill, spoke about her happy relationship of just under a year with self-employed bricklayer Joe and how well he got on with her 11-year-old daughter Ella.
She also said the former St John Fisher RC High School pupil was an extremely private person and described how the 25-year-old’s untimely death had devastated his close-knit family.
Tina, 31, said: “He was a loving, caring, generous person who was always happy and had a smile on his face.
“He was loved by everybody who he met and he will be sadly missed by his parents, his brother, by myself and my daughter Ella, because he was a dad to her.
“It has definitely been a massive shock to all of us. It’s just a tragedy. I just take comfort from all the happy memories we do have together.
“He brightened up everybody’s day and he was very popular and well-liked. In the short time I knew him we experienced a lot together.
“We had so much more planned to look forward to and were always planning the next steps, the next adventures. A week didn’t go by when we weren’t busy doing things.
“We made the most of our time together. Life is too short not to be having fun and that’s definitely how we lived.”
Family would not be drawn on the circumstances of the incident nor where Joseph had been that day.
Merseyside Police is currently investigating the collision and anyone with information is asked to contact the MSOC Roads Policing team on 0151 777 5747 or call independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
