Cyclist dies after A6 collision at Garstang

A 25-year-old cyclist has died after his bike was in collision with a car on the A6 at Garstang.

Anthony McDermott suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to the Royal Preston Hospital where he died on Friday morning.

The incident happened at 10.15pm last night (Thursday, September 26) when Mr McDermott, of Garstang, rode out of the grounds of the Crofters Hotel when he collided with a Honda Jazz travelling south along Preston Lancaster New Road.

Lancashire Police said the 42-year-old driver, a woman from Lancaster, was treated for shock but was otherwise uninjured.

Sergeant James Power, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”

The road was closed for more than three hours while investigations were carried out.
