A woman was robbed of hundreds of pounds of pub takings as she walked to a bank in Morecambe.

Detectives say the attack might have been targeted with the robber lurking around the area beforehand.

It happened at 11.40am on Monday, February 24 as the victim left the Smugglers Den. Police only released the details today, Thursday.

She was approached from behind by a man who snatched her bag from her shoulder and ran off down Poulton Road.

Police said the black bag with a gold buckle contained several hundred pounds in takings from that weekend and some personal items.

The woman was shaken by the incident but not injured.

Detectives have asked for the public’s help tracking down the robber, who is described as white, around 5ft 5”, slim and aged in his late 20s or early 30s.

He was said to be wearing a grey baseball cap, a black Nike hooded top and blue jeans.

DC Trevor Walker, of Lancahire Police, said: “We are investigating the possibility that this may have been a targeted robbery and that the offender may have been hanging around the area shortly before so I would appeal directly to anyone that may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area around the pub that morning to come forward.

“Similarly, if anyone recognises the description of the man or if they have any other information that they think might be relevant, then I would ask them to contact us.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting log number LC-20140224-0482.
