Masked and hooded robbers carrying an axe threatened staff members when they raided a Morecambe bookies.
Two members of staff had locked up the front door at Ladbrokes on Yorkshire Street and as they were stood at the far end of the shop, they heard banging and saw three hooded, masked men attempting to kick the front door open.
The trio managed to kick the door open and ran into the shop, with one carrying an axe.
The other two jumped over the shop counter.
The members of staff – one man, one woman - ran out of the rear door feeling terrified.
The woman was pushed to the floor in an alley outside of the shop, where one of the robbers shouted for her to hand over keys to the safe.
They then ransacked the safe, stealing a substantial amount of cash and coins.
They escaped through the front door, running along Yorkshire Street, turning onto Regent Road.
Shortly after the robbery, a red saloon type car was seen driving off from the area at high speed.
A red Vauxhall Calibra was then found abandoned nearby on Halden Road.
DI Bev Foster from Morecambe CID said: “This was a frightening robbery which has resulted in one of the shop workers suffering a fractured arm just for being at work at the wrong time.
“I would ask anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the robbery, or anyone who may have seen the offenders running away from the scene, to contact police.
“I am keen to trace the owner of the red Vauxhall vehicle so if this belongs to you, or you know who owns this car, again, please get in touch for us to eliminate you from our inquiries.”
The offenders have been described as:
1. Male, 6 ft, of a slim build wearing a blue hooded waterproof jacket and camouflage trousers.
2. Male, 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins, wearing a dark jacket with a grey hooded top underneath and dark trousers. He was also wearing a dark coloured bandana over his face.
3. Male, 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins, of a heavier build, wearing a dark hooded jacket and dark trousers.
The robbery occurred on Thursday, May 22, at 9.30pm,
