RACIST graffiti scrawled on a play area in Scotforth is “creating a climate of fear” a nearby resident has claimed.
Swastikas were recently found painted on the walls of the playground and basketball court off Palatine Avenue.
Lancaster City Council was made aware of the problem, and painted over the affected areas, but the resident, who did not wish to be named, said that the words and symbols were still visible underneath, and that more must be done to stop the problem getting worse.
“I’ve lived in Scotforth for years,” he said.
“The racist graffiti is awful and has created a climate of fear. Many families no longer use these facilities as a result.
“The council simply put white paint over the affected areas, which looks terrible and is ineffective because the words and swastikas are still visible.
“The whole recreational area is in dire need of repair – the playground is in an horrendous condition, the tennis courts are overgrown and abandoned, the surface of the basketball court is ruined. What message are we sending to children in the area? That we can’t be bothered to provide somewhere nice and safe for them to play?”
