Van ‘reversed into shutters’

Burglars used a white van as a battering ram before stealing valuable equipment from a Morecambe tool hire firm.

The vehicle was reversed into the shutters of Speedy Hire, on White Lund Industrial estate, forcing them open.

Once inside, the offenders stole several power tools, including a Husqvana K760 circular saw, a hydraulic pack for a breaking drill and a HAVmeter, a device used to monitor workers’ exposure to hand-arm vibration.

The raid happened at around 5.37pm on Saturday, February 1.

Detective Constable Trevor Walker, from Lancaster and Morecambe CID, said: “I want to appeal to anyone who might have any information about this break in. Particularly, I would be interested in speaking to anyone that may have seen either a large, white Mercedes Sprinter van or a small blue Rover in the area at the time.

“I would like to hear from anyone that saw anything suspicious in the area either that evening or in the days leading up to the offence to contact Lancashire Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
