Residents of the Vale in Lancaster tended to an injured swan until it was released by the RSPCA.

The swan had flown from the neighbouring canal before hitting a crate.

It landed in a nearby bush and hopped into the middle of the road for around two hours.

PCSO Winder from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team arrived to warn drivers of the swan and together with two local residents managed to usher the swan onto the grass with bread.

The RSPCA was informed and checked the injured swan over before releasing it back into the canal.

If you see anybody injuring or killing a swan, call police on 101 and the wildlife liaison officers will investigate.
