POLICE are investigating after a local footballer claimed he was subjected to racist abuse by an opponent at a match last weekend.
The incident is alleged to have occurred following local North Lancashire League first division side College FC’s 2-0 victory at Grange on Saturday, March 17.
College FC manager, Paddy Fairclough, said the alleged victim, who is mixed race, had claimed a white opponent had made “a couple of racist remarks” as he headed towards the changing rooms following the final whistle.
Mr Fairclough said the College player had “gone ballistic” but had resisted the urge to go after the player and had instead called police.
He added that the Grange player had later sought to make amends.
Police officers then arrived to take statements.
