The leaflet drop is part of a four-week campaign running throughout August highlighting burglaries and home security.

Neighbourhood officers will be spotting any properties they feel could be vulnerable to sneak-in burglaries by being insecure via either the door or open windows.

If they feel you could be at risk then you will get a #safeathome card which will offer advice on how to protect your home and how to report being a victim of a burglary.

A spokesman for Lancaster and Morecambe Police said: “Everybody has the right to feel safe in their own home.

“But if you’ve been a victim of burglary, it can cast a shadow over your life, leaving you and your family feeing scared and anxious. We are absolutely determined to do everything we can to crack down on burglaries and bring criminals to justice, but remember there are things you can do to reduce your risk of becoming a victim.”
