THE manager of a Lancaster convenience store has been jailed after stealing more than £35,000 from his employers.
Kenneth Bruce Meadwell, 41, stole the cash from the Spar in Bowerham Road, Bowerham, between June 1 and December 16 last year.
Meadwell was jailed for two years at Preston Crown Court after he admitted the theft of £35,167.52.
As store manager he had been responsible for banking the takings.
It is believed that instead of handing cash over to a security company which made scheduled visits to collect takings, he would tell them the money was not ready and keep it for himself. Meadwell, of Broadmeadow in Lostock Hall, near Preston, is understood to have been struggling with debts.
