Police are advising people not to put underwear on their washing lines after a recent crime spree in which ladies knickers were stolen.

There have been thefts of underwear from washing lines in the Primrose and Bowerham areas of Lancaster during the last couple of months.

So far there have been several reports of theft of women’s underwear in particular.

Officers from the local Neighbourhood team have conducted house to house enquiries in the area and would encourage anyone who has any information into these offences to come forward.

PC Gill Syer of Lancaster Police said: “This may seem like a joke to some people but can be very worrying for those involved.

“I would urge people, despite the good weather, to keep their washing lines free from underwear so there is little opportunity for the perpetrator to continue this crime.”

If anyone has information in relation to these offences then please contact the Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
