Keep your home secure in summer

Police are reminding people not to be complacent with their security and not to have an ‘open door’ policy at home.

During the summer months people are more inclined to leave doors and windows open to ventilate their homes, but this also makes them open to opportunistic thieves.

Taking a few basic precautions can reduce the chances of becoming a victim of a summer crime.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson said: “We don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun – the summer holidays should be about people getting out and enjoying themselves (and hopefully the weather).

“Taking a few extra seconds to lock the front or back door, checking the windows are closed and the shed is locked can save significant heartache. “
