Police are asking festive shoppers to be vigilant as a new operation is launched in Lancaster.

At Sunday’s Christmas lights switch-on, officers will hand out tiny ‘jingle bells’ for people to attach to their purses, handbags and wallets which will ring if they are picked up or snatched.

As part of the campaign, called Operation Jingle Bells, the community policing office at Lancaster bus station will be open to the public over the coming weeks and officers will be on hand to talk about staying safe as Christmas approaches.
