Lancashire Police is to recruit 100 new officers.

But the decision to hire them over the next 18 months does not mean the overall number of officers is increasing.

In fact, 700 will be lost by 2017 due to funding cuts.

Crime commissioner Clive Grunshaw said taking on officers would mean the force would not lose more than 700 officers through what he described as “natural turnover”.
