A FAMILY is heartbroken after thieves stole Christmas presents from their home at the end of a tragic year.

The burglary at Denny Avenue, Ryelands, happened just weeks after Sonya Hall lost her partner John Balmer, the father of her two children Tilly, aged three, and Emmen, aged seven, to cancer.

Mrs Hall told how the theft of a treasured locket inscribed with the word “daughter” and a silver locket, which he had given to the children on his deathbed had particularly hurt.

Earlier in the year, Tilly was diagnosed with suffering from reflex anoxic seizures, a type of fit triggered by a temporary cutting off of blood to the brain, while Emmen, who attends Morecambe Road Special School, is autistic and has difficulties with speech.

Emmen’s pocket money – just £1.70 – was also taken from his bedroom window sill during the break-in along with goods worth thousands of pounds.
