Distraction thefts of bank cards and cash

Police are warning of criminals targeting people using cash machines after two similar incidents in which stolen PIN numbers were used to withdraw cash from bank accounts.

In the first incident, a woman was shopping and believes someone standing behind her took her PIN number.

She was distracted in the car park by an Eastern European man and discovered later her bank card had been stolen from her car. Nearly £5000 was taken from her bank account.

In the second incident, a woman returning to her home was approached by an Eastern European womanwho asked her for directions.

She believes a second person, a man, went into her car and removed her purse from her handbag and met up with the victim and the woman.

She had written PIN numbers on her cards and this is how the man and woman removed money from her account. Call 101.
