CCTV appeal after purse theft in shop

A woman had her purse stolen whilst shopping in Sainsbury’s in Morecambe.

Police said that the woman was shopping in the Lancaster Road store when her purse fell from her handbag.

CCTV images show another female shopper pick the item up from the floor, and place it inside her coat, making no efforts to hand the item in or return it to the rightful owner.

PC Ben Hanley, from Lancaster Police, said: “This theft, although relatively minor in value, is concerning in that the suspect appeared to glance directly at the victim after picking the item from the floor.

“As a community, we should be able to rely on the honesty of our neighbours when accidents take place or mistakes are made.

“I would ask the public to study the image as we are keen to speak to the female pictured in relation to our ongoing enquiries.” The purse was stolen at 3.50pm on Tuesday, September 30,
