A Morecambe bus driver is to go on trial accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a crash involving schoolchildren near Kendal.

Anthony Waner, 44, of Acre Moss Lane, denied the charge when he appeared in court.

The prosecution follows a collision on September 23 on the A685 at Grayrigg when the bus driven by Waner was involved in a crash with a HGV.

Ten people were hurt, including six children who were on their way to school.

They were treated at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The lorry driver, a man from Kendal, was airlifted from the scene with serious but not life-threatening head, neck and arm injuries after being cut from his cab by firefighters.

The collision involved 30 people altogether.

On the bus there were 28 passengers, most of them children aged 11 and above.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash while the scene was cleared.

Waner was bailed to appear before Carlisle Crown Court on April 21.
