Bowling insults outrage

Members of the bowling club discovered the black spray painted graffiti which said ‘Old people suck’, W.E.C and **** the police’ on the greens as well as in a shelter and a boarded up window of the cafe last Wednesday morning.

Brian Cooke, secretary of Morecambe Bay Mixed Bowling Club for 20 years, said: “It’s the first time the club has been attacked and its annoying that they have written on the bowling greens. It’s getting beyond a joke.People from away don’t want to come here and see that.

“They are a bunch of idiots. This is just wilful damage. We try and have a good relationship with the youngsters because we teach them bowling, as well as disabled people and this spoils it all.

“Until we get the park manned it will carry on, there isn’t much chance of stopping it.

“We play on the greens again on Thursday so hopefully it will look better then.”

Another member of the bowling club said: “This graffiti was sprayed on the bowling green and the window where bowls equipment for the tuition centre is stored,and the bowls shed It’s sad, this park has great potential but this mindless thing should not be tolerated.” The vandalism was reported to the city council.

A spokesman for Lancaster City Council said: “We have cut the grass as close as we can to try and get rid of the worst of the graffiti and it will go as the grass grows.”
