Biter gets £1k bill but no jail

A DRINK fuelled reveller sank his teeth into a man’s ear following an argument, leaving him needing reconstructive surgery to repair it.

Adam Newton spent three days in hospital and had to take a month off work after plastic surgery to cut away cartilage and reconstruct part of the right ear.

His attacker Ian Benson, 23, of Green Street, Lancaster appeared for sentence at Preston Crown Court after pleading guilty to unlawfully wounding Mr Newton and a common assault on his friend Joshua Whyke, who had tried to help.

The attacks occurred on October 3 last year after Mr Newton and Mr Whyke had been out in the city.

Benson, who was drunk, barged into Mr Newton in an alleyway and an argument ensued.

He headbutted Mr Newton who responded by punching the defendant on his arm.
