The victim, a 47-year-old man, had gone out for a ride on his bike close to Ryelands Park in Lancaster. Burke stuck his arm out and struck Mr Hamilton.

The blow caused him to fall off his bike to the ground and Burke then started punching him.

Eventually he managed to stand up but Burke grabbed his bike and hurled it at him. The judge ruled a custodial sentence was necessary.
