Appeal after hit and run in Bowerham

At around 8.30am, on October 27, a cyclist was riding down Bowerham Road, away from Lancaster at the junction of Barton Road and Bowerham Road.

A white car overtook the cyclist but cut in front of him and turned left at the junction onto Bowerham Road.

The car hit the cyclist, who was thrown into the road.

The cyclist remembers several members of the public coming to his aid but says that he was in a daze at the time.

The driver of the white car is believed to have initially stopped, looked out of his car window and then driven off up Bowerham Road in the direction of Bowerham Lane.

The cyclist suffered a cut to his right eyebrow and a sore elbow and initially made his way to his destination but it soon became apparent that he was more seriously injured than he initially thought.

He was taken to hospital, where it was confirmed he had a fractured elbow, fractured cheekbone/jaw and the cut to his eyebrow which required stitches.

PC Simon Harrison, from Lancaster and Morecambe Police, said: “We would ask the public if they witnessed the incident to get in contact with us.

“We would also appeal to the individual who was driving the vehicle to give us their version of events.

“Also if any vehicle repairers are approached to carry out or quote for any repairs to a white vehicle, believed to be to the nearside or nearside rear, since that date, then please could they get in touch with us.”
