Appeal after attempted robbery at bookmakers in Morecambe

A man threatened a cashier with a knife during an attempted robbery.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident at BetFred bookmakers in Morecambe.

The incident happened at around 9am on December 11, at the shop on Lancaster Road, Torrisholme.

A man entered the shop armed with a knife and demanded money from the lone cashier.

She refused to hand over any money and the man fled the scene empty handed.

He is described as white, thought to be 20-30 years old, 6ft tall and of a skinny build.

He was wearing a dark blue hooded raincoat and blue jeans with green coloured netting covering his face.

DI Phil Jones of Lancaster CID said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of the bookmakers at around 9am this morning to contact us if they saw a man fitting this description.

“I would expect the area to be busy at that time with commuters and residents so someone may hold vital information that could help us with our enquiries.

“Fortunately the victim was uninjured and is now recovering from her ordeal.”
