Angry allotment holders have slammed vandals who broke into at least 15 sheds and have said ‘we will not be beaten.’
Over the weekend, yobs broke into the allotments on Osborne Road in Heysham, burnt one shed to the ground and broke into sheds, stealing tools.
Allotment holder Karen Charnock said: “Our shed was broken into the week before last and they stole two strimmers, one worth £400, a spade, a rake and a wheelbarrow.
“It’s always around the same time of year. There were 15 sheds broken into on the Friday night and two more on Saturday night.
“This is the second shed that has been burnt down in the last few months. There are disabled and community groups on there and we are trying to raise money for compost toilets and this puts it back.
“It’s just vandalism. It’s not nice when we can’t afford to replace the equipment. But they are not beating us.
“We don’t want to let them beat us. It’s £1500 for a toilet and this puts us back, it’s not nice. If anyone can donate a portable cabin to house tools safely, please call Karen on 07716 280914.”
Police said one shed was set on fire and another six had been broken into over the weekend. Call 101.
