Sprightly 105-year-old celebrates birthday in Morecambe care home

A 105-year-old said to be '˜incredible for his age' celebrated his birthday with family and friends.

Norman Wilkinson, who now lives at Morecambe Bay care home, was born on May 29 1911 and has lived in Lancaster and Morecambe all his life.

He has worked as an accountant, a secretary and a company director.

He retired when he was 65-years-old and enjoyed dancing at a club at Heysham Head and was part of a male voice choir in Lancaster at Masonic lodge.

Toni Clarkson, who works at Morecambe Bay care home said: “Norman is one of the most kindest most wonderful people you could ever wish to meet. He is incredible for his age.”

Two days after Norman was born, on May 31, 1911, the ocean liner RMS Titanic was launched and her sister RMS Olympic sailed for Liverpool the same day to take up transatlantic service.

The coronation of George V and Queen Mary took place on June 22 at Westminster Abbey, London.

Completion of the Royal Liver Building, Liverpool, was marked by starting the clocks in its towers at the same moment as the Coronation.
