While many people will be growing a moustache this month to raise awareness and funds for prostate and testicular cancer, a Lancaster chef has decided to put a rather bizarre spin on “Movember”.
Chris Dickson, 36, from South Road, Morecambe, will be growing his big toe-nail for the whole of November to raise money for St John’s Hospice in Lancaster.
Chris, who is the head chef at The University of Cumbria’s Bowerham Road campus, hopes “Toevember” will bring in plenty of cash for the hospice, and he has already raised £100.
Chris said: “I initially posted this on Facebook and tagged lots of people in on the photo of my toe.
“People were that disgusted by the photo that they promised to donate to the charity if I untagged them.
“The person that donates the least amount will receive the toe nail clipping in a card - on the front of the card it will say Happy Toevember - at the end of November! This is an incentive to donate as much as you can.
“Each week the toe will be painted a different colour or if anyone would like a message on it they have to give an additional donation.
“As you can imagine my fiancée Sharon is horrified and has pledged £20 if she can cut it off at the end of November.
“Sharon would be horrified if this went in the Lancaster Guardian but it also would help with any donations!”
To donate, go to Chris’ Facebook page facebook.com/Toevember, send a cheque payable to St Johns Hospice to Chris Dickson, Head Chef, University of Cumbria, Bowerham Road, Lancaster LA1 3JD or you can donate via paypal at Chrisd1153@sky.com.
