A new website has been launched to promote businesses and groups in a Lunesdale town.

Kirkby Lonsdale Chamber of Trade and Commerce said the site would provide an interactive multimedia hub for traders and community groups.

It has teamed up with the town’s community interest company and town council to set up www.kirkbylonsdale.co.uk, which will also showcase local attractions and amenities to residents and visitors.

Robin Sadler, chamber of trade chairman, said: “The Kirkby Lonsdale website represents a steep advancement in community engagement.

“We’ve created an organic environment designed to grow and evolve with the community, where everyone has a role to play in shaping its future. “It’s a pioneering approach and one which we hope will inspire other towns to emulate.”

The new site has been created by Kirkby Lonsdale web developer Mark Rollisson and features news, events, business updates, community and visitor information, town council and chamber of trade meeting minutes and local history information.

Businesses are also able to create Facebook-style pages to promote events and activities using photographs, words and video in a so-called “virtual meeting place”.

An open launch event will be held at Lunesdale Hall in Kirkby Lonsdale on Saturday, January 11, between 11am and 3pm to showcase the website with practical demonstrations.
