Special celebrations were held at a Crag Bank care home last week to mark the 100th birthday of one of its residents.

Nora Winkley was born in Rossendale on January 24 1914.

She attended school there and qualified to be a primary school teacher at a training college in Hull.

Nora’s teaching career brought her to Morecambe with a job at Lancaster Road School.

She met and married her late husband Alfred Wilson Winkley in 1938 after meeting at the local tennis club in Bare.

They had one son, Michael Stuart Winkley, who sadly died but Nora has three grandaughters, some great grandchildren and lots more family and friends who enjoy her lively company.

Nora lives at Keer Sands Residential Home, Crag Bank, where she feels very fortunate to be and still enjoys and participates in crosswords, and quizzes and still has a keen interest in present day affairs.

Her special day was marked with a small party for family and friends.
