A couple who met through the sea cadets are celebrating sixty years of marriage.
Cyril and Aldene Baxter, 86 and 82, were just 16 and 20 when they first met.
Cyril, born in Ul-Cat-Row near Dockray in Cumbria, and Aldene, born in West End Road, courted for a while before marrying at Sion Baptist Church in 1954.
A talented joiner, Cyril built their first house on Green Acre Road in Hest Bank.
The couple have three children, Philip, 55, Lynn, 53 and Anne, 51 and six grandchildren.
They owned the Tregothnan hotel in Morecambe between 1966 and 1996.
As for the secret to a happy marriage, Cyril said: “I left it to the wife. “ Aldene said: “We take things as they are.”
The couple will celebrate their anniversary with a meal at Heysham Golf club.
