Preparation for summer holiday needs to begin now

At the end of the month the clocks go forward an hour and we all know what that means, other than us losing an hour of sleep.

The nights are getting lighter, days feel longer and summer is on it’s way.

Warmer weather (hopefully) and that summer holiday we’ve saved up for, for the last twelve months is just round the corner.

Is that “hurray” I hear you all say? Or, “I’m dreading wearing my bikini/shorts on the beach”.

Well guys, preparation needs to start now.

There are some really
simple steps you can take to kick start the process. Sounds basic, and it is, move more.

Go and exercise, walk or cycle to and from work, take the stairs instead of the lift, go for a walk on your lunch break, walk the dog for an extra fifteen minutes.

We’ve all used the excuse that these things are hard to motivate yourself to do when it’s dark when you wake up and dark when you get home from work but that’s all changing.

So, take advantage of our changing seasons and change those habits now.

The most difficult and challenging part for most people is nutrition.

I tell all of my clients there is no point exercising and being active if you’re fuelling your body with the wrong types of food. Your petrol car wouldn’t work very well if you filled it up with diesel would it?

Our bodies work in the same way.

There’s a very basic rule to follow, if it didn’t swim in the sea, live on the land or fall off a tree and you can’t pronounce the ingredients, avoid it.

If you eat clean and move more you will start to see and feel the physical and psychological benefits. Set yourself a goal or a target to work towards.

Enrol in an event; tell your friends and family what you plan to do. Make yourself accountable to someone or something and it will be harder to give up and you can use the support and encouragement from people around you to push you forward.

Try and eliminate as much stress as possible from your life and try to get six to eight hours sleep every night.

All very basic and simple steps to kick-start the changes you need to make to prepare you for summer.
