It was another great win on Saturday.
The trip to Ossett Albion wasn’t the greatest of games to watch as the wind was really strong. It was, and excuse the cliché, a game of two halves.
In the first half they had the wind with them but to be honest, didn’t take advantage of it and didn’t really create any clear-cut chances.
Going in at half-time we knew we had a good chance of pinning them in their own half and that’s exactly what we did.
I thought it was just a matter of time before we scored when Razza (Ryan Elderton) put a great ball across and Greeny (Darren Green) nodded it in.
From that point on we were confident and played some really good stuff and it was good to get the goal and wrap the game up.
Aaron Taylor has really come on in the last few games and now he is getting his fitness right he can be a real asset to our already free-scoring forward line.
He got his deserved first goal at the end of the Ossett game with a great header from a corner.
Like I said, it wasn’t the prettiest game but it’s the three points that count and from a defender’s point of view, it was good to get another clean sheet.
The fixtures have thrown us Ossett Albion again this Saturday and I think it’s really important that we don’t get complacent just because we beat them at the weekend.
We all know that two games are never the same and I’m sure they will come to Giant Axe trying twice as hard to avenge the defeat.
But I’m sure if we approach the game as we have been over the last couple of months it should be another three points.
I must give a quick mention to the gaffers (Neil Wainwright and Michael Stringfellow, below) who I thought were unlucky not to get the manager of the month award for January.
But given the bad luck that seems to bring, as it did on Saturday with Tony Sullivan and Cammell Laird, I’m sure they’re not too bothered!
