On Friday I will be visiting Our Lady’s Catholic College, to wish pupil Naomi Genitoni-Smith good luck.
Naomi will be presenting her science project “Research of novel fire retardants for composites” to a number of judges during The Big Bang Fair, the UK’s largest celebration of sciences and engineering for young people.
The Big Bang Fair takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on March 13 and 14.
I will look forward to hearing about Naomi’s project on Friday.
This week is a really important week to me, it is National Apprenticeship week, I am particularly proud to support to support National Apprenticeship week as it is a great way to get young people into work and give them a good start in life.
In 2009/10 there were 560 apprentices in Morecambe & Lunesdale, the figures from 2012/13 show that there was 1,130 apprentices which means the number of apprentices have more than doubled since the last Labour Government left office.
In the North West, apprenticeships have increased by 88.9% between 2011 – 2012 meaning there are 89.310 new apprenticeship start ups. I know that Costain, the company who are building the £124.5 Million Heysham M6 Link road plan to take on apprentices too.
On Friday I am looking forward to attending an apprenticeship event organised by Lancaster and District Chamber of Commerce.
I will look forward to meeting business people who employ apprentices and also hearing Ian Stewart the Station Manager of Heysham 1 talk about how fundamental apprentices are to EDF’s model.
There will also be representatives at the event from the National Apprenticeship Service and Lancaster and Morecambe College, the College trains many apprentices.
I am starting to hold regular business breakfast events, this is an opportunity for local business leaders to network and to talk to me about all things business.
If it is something you would be interested in attending please contact my office for further details.
My next advice surgery is on Friday, March 14, to book an appointment please contact my office for more details.
