I was in Saudi Arabia last week with a House of Commons trade delegation, the purpose of which was to meet with business leaders and the Government to promote UK companies.
During the visit I was able to have a high level meeting with Deputy Labour Minister Dr. Mufarreh Al-Haqbani and proudly told the Minister that Morecambe & Lunesdale is open for business.
Within the constituency we have a number of businesses who export worldwide, Arpinalls Engineering and DST being just two of those businesses.
I do think it is important to make Saudi companies aware of the expertise we have here in Morecambe & Lunesdale and to make it easier for our international companies to export.
DST Engineering – as an example – currently exports to the Far East and the United Arab Emirates, and long may this continue.
Exporting gives a huge boost to our local economy, creating wealth and jobs.
The Saudi Government me assurances me that it would work with UK Trade & Investment which is the Government body that promotes exports and investment in the UK.
The House of Commons returned this week after recess, and on Wednesday evening I presented a petition to the House of Commons on behalf of the residents in Skerton who in large numbers have written to me in support of the campaign to keep Skerton High School open.
