On Friday I spent some time travelling by bus to gauge public opinion about Lancashire County Council’s proposed withdrawl of funding for buses.
It was interesting to hear the views as a number of constituents express concerns about evening and weekend services. A number of constituents who live in the more rural areas of the constituency say they may have to get off the bus in Carnforth and walk several miles in the dark.
I will continue to monitor this situation. I have tabled a Parliamentary motion which calls on Lancashire County Council to reconsider its decision to reallocate a £3.7 Million budget that was put aside for 48 PCSO’s or 30 Police Constables and instead the County Council proposes to spend £6 Million on 27 Early Action Response Officers, many of whom will be social workers.
You can read the full text of my motion below.
“That this House notes that Lancashire County Council (LCC) has reallocated a budget of £3.7 million originally intended to create 48 Police Community Support Officers or 30 police constables to fund the creation of 27 Early Action Response officer (EARo) posts at a cost of £6 million; further notes that most of the EARos will be social workers; believes that this budget would have been far better spent on frontline community policing; and calls on LCC to reconsider this decision.”
Thank you to the partners and staff at Vets 4 Pets who made me welcome last week to look around their new surgery. I was impressed with the amount of high tech equipment they have in the practice. It was also nice to meet their patients during my visit.
Also last week I met with the developers who are proposing a £17 Million development on the former Frontierland site in Morecambe. For some years I have been talking to the owners of the land, Morrisons, about redeveloping the site and I am now please Opus have these exciting plans.
