Well this week heralds the start of the return to school after the Christmas break and the return to our normal routine.
I have mixed feelings about this.
I shall miss my boys as we have had a lovely holiday break together.
I also know that this week will be a very unsettled and anxious one for Tom due to the change of routine.
Tom has had two weeks of calm and rest and lazy mornings surrounded by lots of lovely new toys and decorations.
He has been able to do what he likes as we have all had a restful time.
However, now all of a sudden, the decorations have gone, the toys have been gradually packed away and he is sucked back into his rigid routine.
I therefore know that this week will be a time of adjustments for him.
Monday was his first day back at school and we had a somewhat difficult morning.
He refused to get dressed and then when I had finally managed to wrestle him into his clothes he clung on so tightly to me telling me that there was no school today that he nearly broke my heart.
Although you know that what you are doing is the right thing for your child it still leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth.
On Tom’s return home I read in his home school book that he had a somewhat restless day at school with not really following the staff’s instructions but that this was to be expected.
He did though eat all of his lunch and this is always a good sign.
He was very happy when he got home and as usual he demanded that his pyjamas be put on and he wanted a bowl of Cheerios.
So this week will be a rocky one for Tom.
B ut we will keep ploughing on knowing that next week hopefully will be easier.
Needless to say Stephen is loving being back at school and I have to admit that it is lovely to have some quiet time to myself.
However, I do miss them.
