A Lancaster tattoo studio is setting the benchmark for quality and style after re-opening in a landmark city building this week.

Aurora Tattoo Studio held a launch event at its new premises below the Sultan of Lancaster in Brock Street on Sunday, with live music, tattoo demonstrations, talks and displays.

The studio has been opened by Lancaster couple Sam Wisniewski, 28, and fiancee Emma Kierzek, who was formerly based at Kings Arcade, in King Street.

Sam runs a tattoo removal business in Lancaster and Morecambe, and the pair have set out on a business venture which they say will broaden the scope of the studio to incorporate art, photography, music, and lessons and seminars.

The space – a large, open pillared room complete with stage area and decorated to a high standard, was formerly a food delicatessen but has been unoccupied for the last 18 months.

Sam said: “The launch was brilliant, it couldn’t have been better.

“Emma and I have opened the studio together, and we’re hoping to use the venue to the best of its potential.

“The building had been empty for 18 months, and we’ve been looking for the right place for a few years now.

“It’s been part of an on-going business plan, and we knew the space we were looking for, but we were told we weren’t going to find it in Lancaster.”

Emma is a high end player on the international tattoo art scene, having won competitions and conventions for her work, including Best UK Female at UK industry, awards, and Best portrait tattoo at Rome tattoo convention, so the couple said they needed a quality space in order to attract artists they know from across the world.

“We want it to be a multi-functional creative space, there’s a stage in here for music and comedy, and we can now use it to bring in guest artists from places like Denmark, Italy and Brazil.

“It’s going to be a relaxed space as well, and we welcome anyone who is interested to come in for a brew if they see we’re open.”

The business employs four tattooists, including Emma, and a business consultant.
